Profile

I have almost 7 years experience working in industry as a web and app developer. During this period I have expanded my programming knowledge by learning a number of languages including Java for Android, C# and Dart for Flutter. I have worked independently and through entire project stacks; building, deploying and maintaining customer focused applications. I am self motivated, driven, adaptive and enjoy working as team.

Prior to my industry work I studied Computer Science at the University of Birmingham, freelanced as a web developer dealing mostly with WordPress theme customisations and ran several of my own web based businesses. With the experience gained working in industry and freelancing I have familiarity working for various clients and within all stages of a project life cycle. Employment & Experience

Raytheon UK (Gloucester) 2019 – Current

I have been in this role since November 2019 as a Software Engineer. I am security cleared (SC) and currently going through DV clearance. Due to the sensitive nature of the work I have had to sign NDAs so I am unable to discuss my work. It has however given me the opportunity to learn ReactJS, Java Springboot, Java Web Authentication and Amazon Web Services. I plan to sit an exam and gain my AWS Solutions Architect Associate certifications in the near future.

BSAVA (British Small Animal Association) 2015 – Present (currently contracting).

Responsibilities:

  • Develop Dot Net Nuke modules in C# and Android applications.
  • Improve upon the above apps and modules using staff and member feedback.
  • Communicate with other departments and members in the development of applications.
  • Debug and maintain sites and apps.
  • Explore new technologies.

After graduating in Computer Science I was hired by the BSAVA as a web developer and the sole Android developer. It has been a challenge that I have relished and one that has helped me grow as a professional. My knowledge and responsibilities have expanded over the period that I have been with the organisation. Most recently I took it upon myself to research options to make our small development team more efficient. After prototyping using various IDEs including Xamarin I am now in the process of redeveloping and expanding our current apps namely the BSAVA App Suite and Congress App in Flutter.

Having now spent some time with Flutter I am comfortable enough with the toolkit to help others on StackOverflow and GitHub with their own Flutter applications.

One of the highlights of my time at the BSAVA was after a tender went out to firms to design and develop the new BSAVA website. However, after several weeks the winning firm failed to deliver and so I was called upon to build the site and deliver it on schedule. I am very proud to say that I managed to complete the site on time and saved the organisation 10s of thousands of pounds in the process; the charity’s President and my peers have praised my work. I feel that I have been a great positive influence and integral part of the organisation’s growth and continued success.

Please feel free to view and download applications I have worked on.
