It doesn’t feel that long ago when actor/director Joey Ansah and Christian Howard approached me to work alongside them on a top secret project. To say I was a little excited to hear they were filming a live action Street Fighter is an understatement. My top secret task was to design the Street Fighter Legacy logo, this logo was to be plastered all over their promo material and included in the title sequence, and I had a week to do it. Crikey!
That was April 2010, fast forward to 2013 and Joey and Chris are doing it again, but this time it’s the real deal. £2 to 3M budget, well known Japanese talent, Dojos being built from scratch, a close to 3hr script ready to be shot in Bulgaria.
Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist is a coming of age story for Ryu and Ken, it tells the tragic tale of the Ansatsuken Fist (the deadly martial art in which they train). Master Gouken teaches and raises them from a young age into men ready to go out into the real world, however he worries that they follow the wrong path like his young brother Gouki did all those years ago.
I won’t lie when I witnessed the credits roll I got a little teary eyed. I know what these guys went through to get to this point, and OMG they did such a fantastic job! Please check it out on Bluray/DVD and Netflix.
